Healthy On-the-Go Snacks

Hey guys! Thanks for all the love on yesterday's post! It was a tough one to write, but I'm glad I got it out there!

Yesterday was a rest day for me, so today I'll be getting back to the gym later on to do a CrossFit class. Also working on an upper body workout to get out to you all this weekend! Get pumped to get PUMPED.

We're going to lighten things up a bit today and talk about healthy snacks that are easy to take with you on-the-go. I LOVE snacks. Basically, if I'm not currently eating, I'm thinking about what I'm going to eat next. Food is life.

I probably have about a million different ideas for snacking, given the scenario, but here are a few of my favorites:

Mixed berries: My favorites are strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. I like to de-stem and slice my strawberries ahead of time so I can just scoop it out as I need it during the week.

Boiled eggs: This is a great one to get some extra protein in during the day. Add a sprinkle of salt and these make a super yummy snack or breakfast addition.

Protein Shakes: Also a great, easy protein addition to your day. If you have the ability to make a smoothie ahead of time, even better! I use a Nutribullet to make mine. The blending cups come with screw-tops, which make it easy to transport your smoothie after making it.

Veggies with yogurt ranch dip: I love the Bolthouse Farms yogurt ranch dip. It's a LOT lower in fat than normal ranch dressings, and it still tastes great. Use it for dipping peppers, cucumbers, or broccoli. You can find the Bolthouse Farms dressings in the produce section with the other refrigerated dressings. They're all fantastic!

Raw veggies on their own! I especially love carrots.

Grillo's. Pickles. These things will change your life. Bonus: I don't count these in my macros because they are SO low calorie. So it's like you're getting a treat for free. Buy them now, thank me later.

Anything Terra brand: I'm talking sweet potato chips, sweets and beets, plantain chips, sweets medley. They are ALL good. You can't go wrong with these guys.

Lesser Evil Snacks brand Paleo Puffs: Lesser Evil makes some great stuff. If you haven't checked them out, I highly recommend. My personal favorite is the cheesy puff flavor! You can also order snack-size bags so you don't even have to pre-portion them out. They make great popcorn too!

Theo's Dark Chocolate bars: If you have a sweet tooth like me, I have to have some chocolate in my life every now and then. Theo's uses high quality, organic ingredients to make their chocolate and their bars taste incredible. A couple squares a night keeps the sweet tooth at bay.

Protein bars: My favorite protein bar taste-wise is the Quest brand Hero Bar in the vanilla caramel flavor. The ingredients are NOT the cleanest, but if I need some extra protein, and I don't have time to prep food, this is my go-to. Other bars that I enjoy (with much cleaner ingredients) are RX bars and Lara Bars.

Perfect Foods Bars: I know this is another bar, but it deserves its own section. These things are AMAZING. I love them so much. They are made from super clean ingredients, taste incredible and satisfy both a sweet and salty craving. My favorite flavor is the blueberry cashew, but the peanut butter, almond butter, dark chocolate peanut butter, cranberry crunch, really just all of them, are great too. They are pretty high in fat, so be careful with that, but if you know you won't get a chance to eat a meal for a while these bars are fantastic.

Country Archer Jerky: My fave is the teriyaki flavor. I shared this one on one of my Friday Faves post, and it is definitely a regular snack fave. This is a great way to add in some extra protein with a relatively low volume of food. Watch out with this one, though, because it is easy to go through the whole bag.

Green apple slices with nut butter: Grab some travel-friendly packs like this amazing portable snack-pack of cashew butter (drool). Cut your apple up ahead of time and grab one of these packets of nut butter for an easy snack. Justin's has all different flavors of nut butter. Another good brand for these packets is RX bar.

Boom Chicka Pop: If I go to the movies and know that I'm going to crave that movie theater butter popcorn (that my husband ALWAYS gets), I will grab a bag of this, pre-portion out a couple servings, and take it as my movie theater snack. It is MUCH cleaner than the covered-in-butter stuff you're getting at the theater, and still tastes really really good. Watch out: during the holidays they will have some ridiculous flavors like dark chocolate drizzled. It is dangerous and unfair. I try to stick to the sweet and salty. You can also find snack size bags at Target!

Rice cakes: The mini ones are great. I like the cheddar flavored ones when I'm craving something salty, and the apple cinnamon flavor if I want something sweeter. You can also buy the big ones, and add some nut butter on top for some healthy fats! To make it a treat, add the nut butter AND some mini chocolate chips.

We're going to stop there, because you are probably starting to think that all I do is eat. You might be right. But let's move on. What's your favorite on-the-go snack? I hope you find something on this list to add to your routine! Enjoy :)
